Incense holders can be made from porcelain, ceramic, stone, glass, metal, cement, and mixed materials. Each material creates a different relationship between weight, texture, finish, and form. Regardless of material, the holder should be designed appropriately for incense use.

Allow the incense holder to cool completely before cleaning. Remove loose ash gently and follow care instructions suited to the material. Porcelain, stone, brass, glass, and mixed-material holders may require different cleaning methods, so avoid abrasive products unless they are specifically recommended for the surface.
